FIL Approves Turkey as Full Member

(TORONTO, ONTARIO) The Federation of International Lacrosse has granted full membership privileges to the Turkey Lacrosse Association (TLA). The TLA was founded to educate, develop and disseminate information about the sport of lacrosse in the Republic of Turkey.

“We’re honored to announce that the Turkey Lacrosse Association has become a full member of the Federation of International Lacrosse,” said FIL Vice President Steve Stenersen. “The development of lacrosse in Turkey has been a wonderful example of the sport’s growing international appeal, and we are thankful for the passion of Turkish Lacrosse Association founder Patrick Dougherty and so many others who were part of making this milestone possible.”

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Tuesday, September 22, 2015) — Patrick Dougherty (#2 above), Executive Director and Founder of the Turkey Lacrosse Association, played defense for Turkey at the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. Dougherty celebrates with teammates Dave Deriso #8, Tyler Harryman #17, and Joseph Rainoldi #44, during Turkey’s 16-12 loss to Serbia in bracket play. Turkey won the rematch with Serbia 25-18 on Friday, 25-Sept-2015, and finished the indoor worlds in tenth place. See results at WILC 2015 Results. The TLA promotes lacrosse throughout Turkey through informational promotions and events. Turkey first competed in world championship play at the 2014 FIL Men’s World Championship in Denver and finished 22nd of 38 participating nations. Turkey recently competed in the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Syracuse and finished in tenth place.

The Turkey Lacrosse Association (TLA) is founded to educate, develop and disseminate information about the sport of lacrosse in the Republic of Turkey; to promote Turkey Lacrosse to the world and Turkey throughout the Turkish general population through informational promotions and games.
