Wednesday’s Bracket Play Results

(Edinburgh, Scotland) Wednesday’s Championship Bracket and Platinum Division play ended with no real surprises as all favorites won the day.

Championship Bracket

Canada 19, Scotland 0

Holly Lloyd (2G 4A) Erica Evans (3G 1A), Kennedy Milburn (3G), Kenzie Neal (1G 3A) and Brenna Shanahan (2G 1A) led the way for Canada (5-1) in an impressive Quarterfinal showing against host Scotland (4-2). Canada spread the scoring around and held Scotland to just three shots on goal to earn the shutout win.

Australia 13, Japan 4

After allowing Japan (4-2) to pull to within one goal at 4-3 early in the second half, Australia (4-2) scored seven straight to go up 11-3 on their way to a quarterfinal victory. Theo Kwas (4G) led Australia’s scoring, with Ashtyn Hiron (2G 1A) and Stephanie Kelly (2G) adding two goals each. Saki Sekiguchi (1G 1A), Mirei Tamaki, Narumi Nukui and Kyoko Kuwajima all scored a goal for Japan.

USA 18, New Zealand 1

The USA (6-0) used a balanced attack (nine different scorers) and a stingy defense (six shots allowed) to dominate play and keep its streak alive against New Zealand (3-3). Nikki Ortega, Lindsey Ronbeck and Chloe Jones led the USA scorers with 3G and 1A each and Player of the Match Tess D’Orsi added two goals as did Natalie Bulger and Kerrigan Miller. Ella Ransley scored the lone goal for New Zealand.

England 12, Wales 4

England (3-3) rode a 6-1 first half lead to earn a big quarterfinal victory over Wales (1-5). Player of the Match, Luci Delaney, led England’s scorers with four goals and an assist. Liv Wimpenny (3G 1A) and Alice Cranwell (2G 1A) added to England’s offensive efforts. Lauren Hirst (3G) and Rosalind Baynham (1G) scored for Wales with Eleanor Jones (2A) and Penny Green (1A) assisting.

Platinum Division

Colombia 15, Israel 8

Hannah Sacristan (4G), Carolina Rojas (3G 2A), Belen Gutierrez (3G), Julia Herzfelder (1G 4A) and Estefania Rodas (2G 1A) led Colombia (2-4) to a big win over Israel (0-6). Jenna Baverman (2G 3A), Shirel Fresh (3G) and Lucy Hass (2G 1A) led Israel’s scoring.

Germany 7, Finland 5

In the closest match of the day, Germany (4-2) held off a second-half rally to defeat Finland (2-4). Finland’s Lindsay Hobson (2G) scored at 21:11 and Iida Ulaska (1G) at 8:11 to bring Finland to within one goal at 6-5 before Germany got an insurance marker from Philine Partschat (1G) at 5:00 to go by two with the final tally at 7-5. Insa Kriwall led the German attack with 2 goals and an assist.

Czech Republic 18, Republic of Korea 5

The Czech Republic (3-3) used a 40-shot attack to defeat the Republic of Korea (1-5). Leading the way for the Czechs were Adéla Procházková (4G 2A), Kristýna Šturmová (3G 1A), Daniela Pešková (3G), Viktorie Jahodová (2G 1A), with Sára Schlitzová and Kristýna Dejlová adding two goals each. Hee June (3G 1A) led the scoring for the Republic of Korea with Chae Eun and Yejin Ko each netting a goal.
