(TORONTO, ONTARIO) The Federation of International Lacrosse has granted full membership privileges to the Turkey Lacrosse Association (TLA). The TLA was founded to educate, develop and disseminate information about the sport of lacrosse in the Republic of Turkey.

“We’re honored to announce that the Turkey Lacrosse Association has become a full member of the Federation of International Lacrosse,” said FIL Vice President Steve Stenersen. “The development of lacrosse in Turkey has been a wonderful example of the sport’s growing international appeal, and we are thankful for the passion of Turkish Lacrosse Association founder Patrick Dougherty and so many others who were part of making this milestone possible.”
The TLA promotes lacrosse throughout Turkey through informational promotions and events. Turkey first competed in world championship play at the 2014 FIL Men’s World Championship in Denver and finished 22nd of 38 participating nations. Turkey recently competed in the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Syracuse and finished in tenth place.
“Becoming a full member is a giant leap forward for our organization”, said TLA Founder and Executive Director Patrick Dougherty. “This is a great honor and achievement as we lead the way for countries of our kind in the FIL and world. We bring a different perspective to the FIL full members associated with our area and kind of country.”
