(SOFIA, Bulgaria) The Bulgarian Lacrosse Federation (BLF) was proud to sponsor the biggest lacrosse camp ever held in the Balkans from August 7-9, 2009, with the help of The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) and The European Lacrosse Federation (ELF).

The BLF’s inaugural Lacrosse Camp took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, and featured intensive training with a host of great coaching talent. Coach Jack Kaley from the prestigious NCAA Div. II team New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) was the head coach for the camp. Coach Kaley has won four NCAA Div. II national championships with NYIT (1997–2003–2005–2008), was named Coach of the Year for Div. II Lacrosse in 1996, 1997, 2003 and 2008 and is currently the head coach of the German men’s national team. NYIT holds the Div. I and Div. II all time winning percentage with 185 wins to just 33 losses. Coach Kaley was supported by Karl Hedstrom, Assistant Coach at NYIT (formerly with Hofstra University), Kyle Witt of the Welwyn Warriors (formerly with Drexel University) and Henning Schmidt with the European Lacrosse Federation for the duration of the camp activities.

The camp covered individual play and team tactics in offense, defense and transition situations including; dodging, feeding, shooting, off-ball movement, cuts, picks, etc. The training focused on players with up to two seasons playing experience and/or some coaching experience but players of all levels were welcome to attend. The practice plan included a total of five two hour practice sessions and three one hour theory sessions in direct connection with the practice content to provide an optimal mix.
