ASPAC2015 LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

BANGKOK, Thailand— In less than a month, eight nations will converge on IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, the site of the Asia Pacific Lacrosse Union (APLU) ASPAC2015 Lacrosse Championship in Bangkok, Thailand. Many countries in the nine-member APLU, the regional governing body of lacrosse in the Asia and Oceania regions, will be competing for Gold, Silver, Bronze medals – and the ASPAC trophy. The tournament will include both men’s and women’s championships and will run from July 4th through July 11th, 2015 with free admission throughout for the public.

Full article at: filacrosse.com/aspac2015-lacrosse-championship-update/

All of the games will be played at the Muangthong United Football Club state-of-the-art soccer practice facility compound at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani – the long time strategic partner of Thailand Lacrosse Association (TLA) and host of ASPAC2015.

The ASPAC Lacrosse Championship has grown significantly after the inaugural event in 2004, subsequently in 2005 and every two years thereafter. The most recent ASPAC Lacrosse Championship, held in Beijing, China in 2013, saw the arrival of host China, Thailand and Singapore as new participants in the event. Malaysia will be playing for the first time as the new addition for ASPAC2015, adding to an ever-growing field of competitors.

Along with the arrival of Malaysia, there will be a few more "firsts" for the ASPAC Lacrosse Championship history books. For the first time ever, Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) board members will be attending the event. Stan Cockerton, FIL President, and Tom Hayes, FIL Director of Development, will be observing the competition, meeting the delegates from all of the nations in attendance and discussing the goal of the FIL’s Olympic aspirations. They will also discuss the FIL planning and progress towards regionalization, which is seen as an evolving step in the growth of the FIL membership and the move towards IOC recognition.

Other firsts will be the introduction of "Player of the Match" jerseys for each game played and a "Most Valuable Player” of the tournament award to be presented by the APLU at the end of the championship. These “firsts” are all part of an effort to elevate the standards and international awareness of APLU’s biennial ASPAC regional lacrosse championship.

Iroquois Nationals offer open tryouts for the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship
– Iroquois Nationals Press Release

More at: filacrosse.com/iroquois-nationals-offer-open-try-outs-as-part-of-2015wilc-team-selection-camp/

HAUDENOSAUNEE — The Iroquois Nationals have announced the dates of the open and invitational team selection camp for the Federation of International Lacrosse World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (WILC) to be played at Onondaga Nation and in Syracuse, N.Y., from Sept. 18 to 27, 2015.

Potential candidates for the Iroquois Nationals roster – which will ultimately be trimmed to 23 spots – are invited to attend a two-day camp on Thursday June 25 and Friday June 26 at the new state-of-the-art Community Center at Cattaraugus.

On June 25, the Iroquois Nationals coaching staff will be holding a true “open” tryout session from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., offering any Haudenosaunee lacrosse player the opportunity to be evaluated and move forward in the tryout process. At the conclusion of the session, a catered meal will be provided to participants. Players whom the coaches and evaluation staff deem worthy will be asked to participate in the remainder of the tryout.

Friday morning will begin the main camp with the first session running from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The second session is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Friday afternoon, between the two main sessions, the Iroquois Nationals will be hosting a free youth lacrosse clinic to support the Newtown Minor Lacrosse Association. A one-hour session will be held from approximately 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Boys in minor lacrosse are invited to attend. The clinic will be followed by an autograph session with the prospective Iroquois Nationals players and past members of the team trying out for the 2015 squad.

Involving young Haudenosaunee players and community members is a priority for Iroquois Nationals General Manager Landon Miller and his staff as they work to build the team and improve upon the Nationals silver-medal finish four years ago in Prague.

“I want to make sure that we are giving back to our youth through this journey,” said Miller, who is on the Iroquois bench for the first time around. “That’s very important for the Iroquois Nationals as an organization and so we will use opportunities to do so as much possible throughout this process.”

For the first time, the WILC event is being held on Haudenosaunee lands. The WILC will be the first men’s international sporting event held on native lands. Thirteen different nations will be competing for the WILC championship at Tsha’hon’nonyen’dakhwa’ — Onondaga Nation Arena — and Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome.

Player tryout registration for the Iroquois Nationals 2015 team must contact Landon Miller by email at iroquoisnats@gmail.com.

Although German box lacrosse clubs like the German Gents and powerhouse Deutschland Adler are no stranger to international competition, this will be the first World Indoor Lacrosse Championship for the country of Germany.

Many of the players on the 23-man roster compete with Deutschland Adler, including German box lacrosse veterans Jamie Plunkett and Artjom Meriasch.

The games begin on September 18th and conclude with the Bronze and Gold Medal matches in Syracuse’s world-famous Carrier Dome. The Germans have also named four alternates to their final roster.
